If you want a successful, stress-free, and drama-free life (and future), then you’ll need to start looking into making smarter choices. There is no formula on how to live, but there are some measures you can take to make it much more manageable. Life can be hard on its own, and there’s no need to let fate take its course if you can take charge of even a small portion. If you regulate these four aspects of your life on your terms, you are likely to have it easier going through life’s ups and downs.
Yourself
Making smart choices concerning yourself involves the investment you make into yourself. Make it a point to continually learn and ‘upgrade’ yourself so that you have an advantage at opportunities. There is always something to be learned. Be selfish about your wellbeing, both physically and emotionally, to keep you grounded even in the face of adversity. Nobody has got you the way you do, and so you’re your best bet if you want to achieve your goals. Set standards, goals, and values for yourself to serve as guidelines for your decision making.
Family
Your family is an integral part of your life, and so their wellbeing should be your priority. Especially when it comes to your kiddos. You should make smart decisions that will set them up for life. Be particular about what you teach them and give them skills relevant to becoming self-sufficient, respectful, yet assertive, and generally grounded. Be smart about the way you relate to your family, the time you spend with them, and what you do during that time. It will make a significant difference if the choices toward your family are mostly positive.
Finances
Unfortunately, money runs the world. There’s no other way to put it, so you need to be financially smart to be comfortable. Investments, even though they can be risky, are one of the main ways to secure a financially stable life and hence future. You can do it directly, like getting on a universal life insurance plan or fixed deposit and indirectly through property or business. Depending on your income and financial standing, you can get a plan to suit your needs. All you need to do is consult a professional about your options. My friend Christine over at The Mostly Simple Life talks budgeting and finances all the time. She is a great resource if you are just starting out with budgeting or needing to get out of debt.
External Relationships
The company you keep reflects the decisions you make and so you must ensure that you’re amongst forward-thinking and productive people. They say you’re the average of the five people closest to you, and if so, your circle should be the best. Evaluate how the people in your life affect it and decide how much distance you keep between you. You don’t have to hate them, but it will be productive to keep some boundaries.
Taking charge of how your life goes should be a priority, and if you haven’t thought about it already, then start considering it. You’ll be the best version of yourself and have a more fulfilling life of you to make smart choices. You wouldn’t have to work as hard either, and the break is welcome.

I second your view about continually upgrading and learning things, Danielle. The pandemic has taught us how uncertainty can make your life disastrous. I was a stay at home mom for the past six years, and suddenly five months back, I was forced to take up a job due to gross financial situations. I am proud that I could secure a good job despite my inexperience, but of course, with the knowledge, I had gained all these years.
This year has been a trying one for sure. I’m so happy you were able to find something that works for you.
Hang in there! Have a great week.
